lamborghini museumIf you think a visit to Italy is all about wine, food, and historical sites...think again. Take your man to Italy's Motor Valley for a little bonding time with Lamborghini, Ducati, and Ferrari. This gear-head tour can be accomplished in a day. And your fella might be so grateful that he won't complain at all about that Italian leather boot shopping trip you've planned later in the week for Lamborghini Museum located in Sant'Agata Bolognese between Bologna and Modena. The first production model, the 350 GT, built by Ferruccio Lamborghini in 1963, sits at the entrance as you walk into the ground floor display area of the glass-walled museum. And it only gets better. Two floors of gleaming concept cars, vintage production models, and race cars will definitely get a man's heart racing. This is a view-at-your-own-pace experience, so take your time. I want to know how they mounted a Murcielago up on the wall. What a photo opp!

True Lamborghini fans will want to purchase a ticket to the guided group tour that includes a factory visit plus the museum. But if you're planning for a full day in Italy's Motor Valley, opt for just the ticket to the museum and a few minutes in the gift store next door before continuing on to the next motor thrill.

Zoom Along the Ducati Assembly Line

ducati factoryIf you are more into bikes ― fast ones ― the I Love Maranello Tour Company doesn't allow driving alone. An Italian co-pilot accompanies new-born Ferrari drivers through the streets of Maranello. And, yes, it's okay to pull a few gears in a salute while racing past the Ferrari factory gates.

After the driving experience is over, walk a few blocks down the street to the Galleria Ferrari Museum. Inside, discover Ferrari history in an exhibition of Formula 1 racers, grand tourers and sports prototypes, celebrating the history of the automotive company that Enzo Ferrari created.

  • Wow - sounds like heaven for car enthusiasts!

  • I know my Man Thing would love it, but I'm thinking I might like it too. Just to say I've driven a fancy car like that, you know...

  • What great suggestions!  My husband loves Italy and has never taken a trip of this sort.  Thanks.  I'll plan it for his birthday.

  • My husband would love this too. He really liked the BMW headquarters when we went to Munich.

  • Oh, no! Not another incredible reason to visit Italy!

  • My hubby would LOVE the Ducati Museum. I had no idea ... The U.S. has a "motor city," but Italy has a "motor valley."

  • Thanks for the comments. This is certainly a fun Italian excursion for the men (or any car enthusiast).

  • This sounds like such a fantasy trip. I know it would make a few people in my life very happy!

  • Wow this is a must visit for me. Love fast cars. =)

  • Not just fun for the guys. I would LOVE to check this stuff out too.

  • Oh my goodness. I don't think I'd ever drag my three guys away from all that power.

  • Kris, a day in Italy's Motor Valley does create a sort of desperate gleam in their eyes.

  • This sounds like something my brother would love. I would never have thought of visiting the 'sports car' side of Italy, how fun.

  • The beauty of Italy is that it is a small enough country to combine many types of tourism - cars, wine, food, scenery and history.
