Darting probably originated in the Middle Ages when off-duty archers and soldiers would practice throwing broken arrows into the side of an ale keg marked with three circles. Three points were awarded if the arrow landed in the inner circle, two for the middle circle and one for the outer circle.
Eventually, both the board and the darts became more elaborate, and national and international tournaments were established. Today darting is played world-wide and is enjoyed by both professional competitors and amateurs alike.
There are several types of dart boards, including the following:
The first darts were probably small or broken arrows used by off-duty archers. As the game evolved and became more sophisticated, various darts were invented. Today many different types of darts are available for players.
Choosing the correct dart depends mostly on personal preference. Since individual darts can feel different, most darters will try a variety before they settle on the right one for their game.
