The United States Constitution Party has always advocated a return to the original intent of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. The party members believe that many politicians and government officials are abandoning the ideals of the Founding Fathers.

However, the party also believes that the government will usurp the liberty of the average citizen if left unchecked. Due to this fact, the party believes it is necessary to adhere strictly to the principles of the Constitution and limit government powers as necessary.

The Constitution Party is a strong advocate of governmental fiscal responsibility. It believes that federal forms of taxation should be abolished, such as income tax. It believes that a tariff-based revenue system would be much more effective and less of a burden for citizens.
The party also feels that debts to the United States should be called in immediately and believes in paying off federal debt through the dissolution of such agencies as the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services.
