The United States Constitution Party

Founded in 1992 as a conservative political party, the United States Constitution Party was originally named the U.S. Taxpayers Party. The name was changed to the U.S. Constitution Party in 1999.

One of the major founding principles of the Constitution Party is that, as a whole, politicians no longer adhere to the original intent of the Constitution. Members of the Constitution Party believe that politicians have veered away from what the Founding Fathers intended when they wrote the U.S. Constitution. This political party has a goal of getting back to those roots.

Also known in some states as the American Constitution Party, the Constitution Party has seven goals, or principles, that guide its actions. According to the party, the Seven Principles of the Constitution Party are as follows:

• American Sovereignty: American government should be committed to the protection of the borders, trade and common defense of Americans and should not be entangled in foreign alliances.
• Constitution: The U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights should be interpreted according to the actual intent of the Founding Fathers.
• Family: Family should comprise one husband and one wife and their children, as divinely instituted.
• Liberty: The self-governed individual should have freedom of conscience and actions.
• Life: The lives of all human beings should be protected, from conception to natural death.
• Property: Each individual has the right to own and steward personal property without government burden.
• States' Rights: Everything not specifically delegated by the Constitution to the federal government is reserved for the state and local jurisdictions.

The party also seeks a much stricter moral code and wishes for all people in the United States to get back to Biblical foundations.

History of the Constitution Party

The U.S. Constitution Party is a relatively new party on the political scene. Founded in 1992, the original name of the party was the U.S. Taxpayers Party. The name was changed in 1999 at a national nominating convention. It was felt that the new name better represented the goals of the party's founders.

The goal of enforcing the Constitution with all of its original provisions and actual limitations has guided the party from 1992 until today. The party champions the ideals that it believes the Founding Fathers envisioned when they crafted the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.

In 1992, Howard Phillips was the first Constitutional Party presidential candidate in the history of the Constitutional Party.

U.S. Constitution Party Stance

The United States Constitution Party takes a hard-line stance on many issues, from the fiscal responsibility of the United States both at home and in foreign affairs to immigration policy and abortion.

This political party is also very adamant about restoring the moral fiber of the United States and seeks for politicians to be examples of upstanding moral values.

Attempting to remain true to the U.S. Constitution is the Constitution Party stance.

U.S. Constitution Party Structure

The Constitution Party views the national convention, which is held every four years, as the top authority in the party. During the intervening years, the Constitution Party is run by a national committee, which is made up of individuals from state affiliate parties.

Each state party is an independent organization, and each has its own U.S. Constitution Party structure.
