If you're going to hire an attorney, make sure he specializes in family law or divorces. Research multiple potential lawyers--speak with former clients about ease of communication and results. Try to obtain a free consultation, and don't hire an attorney you're not completely comfortable with or confident about. Don't assume that the most expensive attorney is best--this can backfire because the courts can force you to pay for your spouse's attorney if your representation is unequal.
