A will can be contested by a number of interested parties, including spouses, children, parents and more distant relatives, depending on state law. The primary reasons a court will hear a dispute include:
• Ambiguous language concerning beneficiaries and asset division
• Fraudulent handling of the will
• Lack of capacity of the deceased when drawing up the document
• Problems with the legality of the document, including the validity of the signature or witnesses
• The influence of another person over the determinations of the will
• The existence of more than one will or another pertinent legal document.
