Seattle, WA: We learn that police in Seattle needed to set up a ticketing lot for a speed trap they had set up. Guess what kind of lot  they chose? If you guessed it would be the parking lot of a doughnut shop you were right. At least 50 city officers were joined by state troopers who spent the day operating out of  a Krispy Kreme shop parking lot. We learn further that the boys in blue handed out 120 tickets in one day.

What is it with police and doughnuts?

Los Angeles, CA: How's this for a scam? Yupeng Deng, 51, was arrested recently for allegedly creating his own U.S. Army unit and getting unsuspecting Chinese immigrants to enlist with the promise such military service  would lead to U.S. citizenship. Deng charged the 100 recruits $450 apiece, provided them with uniforms and made them perform military drills near his suburban home. However, Deng has nothing to do with the U.S. Army and he cannot provide his recruits with citizenship.

P.T. Barnum was right.  There is a sucker born every minute...

Alliance, OH: A purse snatcher was sentenced to nine years in prison, ending a chain of events that began with the purse snatcher calling 911 on himself. Cody Bragg, 18, grabbed a woman's purse in a parking lot of Walmart in Alliance. The victim and a good Samaritan gave chase, scaring Bragg, who told the 911 dispatcher, "There is this guy in a snow plow that is following me, and, uh, he's scaring me."

Poor baby.  Emphasis on baby!

New York City, NY: Here's a study for you to think about. Researchers at Columbia University and Israel's Ben Gurion University found the hungrier a judge is, the less likely a suspect will be granted bail. The researchers, who studied more than 1,000 Israeli decisions, found 65 percent of bail requests heard after meal breaks were granted, but nearly zero were granted just before the lunch break.

The headline read: "No lunch. No justice!" Remember this if you ever get arrested.

Phoenix, AZ: Yep, man bites dog.  A 33 year old Phoenix burglary suspect bit the police dog who captured him after the canine officer chomped down on him.  Police complain that the suspect injured the police dog.  The suspect contends the dog violated his civil rights.

OK.   He should file a civil rights suit under 42 U.S.C. sec. 1983, forthwith.
