UniqueRecently, I made a visit to my local police department to get my fingerprints taken for my L.C.S.W. (Licensed Clinical Social Work) licensure in the state of California. While observing each of my fingerprints coming up on the screen....I could not help but stand in amazement. I thought to myself those are my fingerprints and not a single person on this earth has the same as me!

During the drive home, I started thinking about how unique each of us truly are. It is miracle that each of us are here today. For a pregnancy to take place, the conditions have to be just right. And when those conditions are right, pregnancy begins and so does our journey of uniqueness. I look at my daughter who is now a toddler and I am in awe of how she is developing and coming to understand the world in her own terms. No one else is like her, nor will there ever be. She is unique, and the master of her own little world.

Children right from the start embrace their uniqueness and they stand proud.  So, what happens to us as adults...why do we lose touch with what sets us apart from everyone else? Maybe it is because once we move along in our journey we see all the things we like about others and want to adopt them for our selves, which in turn slowly but surely, bit by bit, takes away from our true unique self....

At the end of the day the hope is that we can come back to our true self and embrace who we are on the inside and out. There will be quite a few trial and errors along the way to get there, but once we do, there is this overwhelming feeling inside of being "home". My wish is that as each of you move along in your journey on this Earth, you will learn to fully accept your uniqueness and what sets you apart from everyone else....YOU!
