Poll: Entertainment When a TV show "jumps the shark," it's considered to have gone away from the core things that made it a hit, and in a decline that often can't be reversed. The term "jumping the shark" comes from an infamous "Happy Days" episode where Fonzi...jumped a shark in a swimming pool. Subsequent seasons of "Happy Days" seemed to have lost direction after that episode, and the term has left its mark.
