The Royal Opera House was the third theater to be built on the Covent Gardens site in London. It was built in 1858 after the theater that occupied the space burned down. In 1892, the theater was renamed the Royal Opera House due to an expanding reputation of showing famous operas. The opera house continued to put on famous works by various composers until World War I, when it was used as a furniture repository, and during World War II, it functioned as a dance hall. The Royal Opera House reopened its doors in 1946. Today, the theater hosts operas, ballets and orchestral concerts.
