When was "The Magic Flute" by Mozart written?
"The Magic Flute," an opera written by Amadaeus Mozart and Emanuel Schikaneder, was first performed in 1791. This opera was the first commercial production by Mozart, who was more accustomed to working on commission for aristocrats. Mozart and Schikandeder attended the same Masonic lodge at a time when the public was becoming suspicious of Freemasonry--therefore the public was slow to accept the Magic Flute, which had Masonic themes. The opera eventually became a commercial success, and is considered one of Mozarts greatest works.
