Gaming is a blanket term that refers to the playing of video and table top games. This term usually denotes a familiarity of play, as a "gamer" is someone who frequently plays these games. Gaming in the video game world has been popularized by the Internet, where whole communities of online gamers dedicate themselves to a particular game or genre of games. Many of the original gamers played role-playing games, including Dungeons and Dragons, sitting around a table with dice, a pencil and some paper.
