Blood bank specialists work in hospitals, laboratories or community blood banks. These professionals take and examine blood tests from patients. They also collect blood donations and test them for infections. The specialist studies any unusual blood samples found. This position requires a high amount of education. Blood bank specialists oversee all aspects of the facility including the storage and transportation of blood. Specialists assist doctors in blood transfusions. Since specialists work in many facilities that are open 24 hours, evening shifts may be required.
