To get a job as an automotive technician you need an advanced understanding of how cars work, which will require either formal education or job experience. You can go to vocational school to learn more about this field, or enroll in a community college course. Getting a job in a garage, auto parts store or working on your car at home can enhance your knowledge as well. Most companies only hire technicians who are ASE (automotive service excellence) certified. Your training will require you to learn both the mechanical and computerized aspects of auto repair.
