For some car lovers, there are no greater cars than antique and vintage cars. While these cars are often too old to be used for transportation, they bring their owners and admirers plenty of satisfaction, nonetheless.

Of course, there are those who enjoy taking their antique and vintage cars out on a Sunday drive. Not only do the drivers enjoy the feeling of getting behind the wheel of a vintage car, but the spectators also get a thrill out of seeing an antique roll down the street.

In this section, we provide you a variety of information on both antique and classic cars. We'll discuss some of the most popular antique and vintage cars and also give you information on locating antique car parts. We'll even help you find antique and classic cars for sale in your area.

Antique Cars

When people hear the word "antique," they often think of furniture that is hundreds of years old. However, when the term "antique" is used in the world of cars, it is generally describing a car that is at least 25 years old. Cars that survive 25 years are rare, as most cars are designed to last only 12 or 13 years.

Many people enjoy collecting antique cars and working on them on the weekends as a hobby. Due to their advanced age, many antique cars cannot be driven for extended periods of time. Thus, many owners of antique cars drive their prized possessions only on special occasions. It's likely that you've seen antique cars:

  • at high school homecoming events
  • in car shows
  • in parades
  • in road rallies.

Collecting and admiring antique cars can be a fun hobby that can connect car enthusiasts across the county.

Often, car collectors buy and sell antique cars from one another. Since antique cars often can't be driven, most people buy them as an investment and hope to one day sell them for a profit.

Older model Porsches and Ford Mustangs are example of antique cars.

Vintage Cars

Unlike antique cars, vintage cars are most often defined as cars that were manufactured between the beginning of 1919 and the end of 1930. However, some sources define a vintage car as a car that was manufactured between 1919 and 1925.

Cars produced during the so-called Vintage Era were made when the automotive world was going through a transition. In 1919, it was rare for a family or person to own a car. In 1930, however, car ownership was becoming more commonplace. During this time, many of the industrialized nations also built nationwide road systems, making driving easier and more practical.

During the Vintage Era of cars, cars saw a number of advancements, including:

  • car radios
  • four-wheel braking systems
  • heating systems
  • hydraulic brakes
  • power steering.

These advancements made driving much more enjoyable and comfortable.

During this time, society also began to embrace the automobile. Motels popped up along the highways, and drive-in restaurants and shopping centers emerged in many cities and towns. Indeed, society was greatly impacted by what we now call vintage cars.
